Our support-staff compliment the team and ensure its smooth and effective functioning.
At Gryphon, investment professionals function on a multi-disciplinary basis, which ensures collective involvement in product structuring, portfolio management, research, business development and client service. This has the benefit of cross pollination between the different disciplines and focuses the mind of each and every team member on the same business and investment objectives.

Reuben has been working in the investment industry since 1996 after some accounting and commercial experience. He is a Chartered Accountant and a qualified Chartered Financial Analyst. Reuben was one of the founding members of Gryphon and occupied the position of Head of Strategy. Reuben left Gryphon in 2002 and held senior positions at FTNIB and BoE Private Clients before returning to Gryphon in 2004.
Reuben served as an AIMA Board member in 2009. As the Chief Investment Officer at Gryphon he currently directs the investment process and is also responsible for the Alternative Investment business. Reuben co-manages our Absolute-Return, Dividend Income and Global Portfolios.
Abri trained as an econometrician and has been working in the investment industry since 1990, spanning most of the sectors on the stock exchange as well as all asset classes. Prior to co-founding Gryphon in 1998, Abri was Head of Equities at Sanlam Asset Management.
Abri's strong quantitative background serves him well in his position as Economist and Portfolio Manager at Gryphon Asset Management, where he focuses primarily on the Multi Asset products of the business. Abri co-manages our Money Market, Equity Tracker and Multi Asset Portfolios.

Pankie is our group Chief Executive Officer and focuses on the strategic positioning of the broader group and is involved in product development, where his wealth of experience in corporate restructuring and financing is invaluable. He is also responsible for the risk management and compliance function at Gryphon Asset Management. Pankie started his career in the investment and corporate restructuring in 1989, preceded by eight years in taxation. He headed up the Asset Administration Division at Sanlam Asset Management and was a General Manager at Sanlam. He was also closely involved with SAFEX where he served as a director. In 1993, Pankie was a finalist in the Afrikaanse Handels Instituut Junior Businessman of the Year competition. He has lectured on tax in the MBA program of the University of Stellenbosch. He co-founded Gryphon in 1998.
Pankie completed his B. Proc in 2007. The unique combination of his taxation, legal and corporate law makes him an invaluable asset in our team and a major contributor to innovative product design.

Jaco started his career as a research assistant at the National Accelerator Center (now iThembaLabs), while also completing his doctorate in Physics.Jaco moved into financial markets in 1999, starting as a quantitative analyst at PSG Investment Bank. He has worked on risk management systems, stock index arbitrage models, and trading strategies using technical analysis.
Jaco then joined Cadiz and up to 2005 was a senior analyst, where he conducted quantitative research on various quantitative aspects of investment strategy, risk management and derivatives. In 2005, he started the transition management business at Cadiz Securities. This transition team managed over 120 transitions with a combined fund value of R130 billion and received the “Transition Manager of the Year” award for 2009, 2010, and 2011.
Jaco lectured Statistics part-time at the University of Cape Town in the Financial Analysis and Portfolio Management post graduate course from 2003 to 2007.
During 2013, Jaco started the Transition Management business at Gryphon.

Sunette articled with Ernst & Young, where she specialised in audits of manufacturing companies and motor dealerships. After completing her articles, Sunette served as an Audit Manager at a number of accounting firms where she took responsibility for planning and executing audit assignments.
She then entered the world of commerce, serving as a Financial Manager at a medical equipment manufacturer and, subsequently, at M Web Africa, a subsidiary of the then listed M Web group. Sunette set up her own practice in 2002 serving an array of clients in the financial services industry, amongst them Gryphon, before joining Gryphon Asset Management on a full-time basis in 2004 as the Head of Administration and Finance.
Sunette is an active member of our fixed income franchise, credit and risk committee and co-manages our Money Market Portfolios. Sunette and her team also provide the essential link between our in-house fund reporting and our outsourced administration service providers.

Cassie serves as a Research Analyst and Portfolio Manager at Gryphon. He completed his B. Comm (Financial Analysis) at Stellenbosch and is a qualified Chartered Financial Analyst. Cassie spent the years 2007 to 2011 in the asset administration industry, serving as a business analyst and team leader. Cassie joined Gryphon during 2011 and his strong quantitative background assists in the maintenance of our proprietary value models. He performs detailed analysis on companies we identify as potential value opportunities and co-manages our Equity Tracker fund.

Bertus commenced his career in life and group insurance at Old Mutual, where he completed the Old Mutual Management Training Program in 1991 and subsequently headed up the Client Services North Administration division.
After a stint playing professional rugby in France, Bertus returned to South Africa in 1994 and worked at Charter Life and Fedlife as a senior broker consultant during which time he garnered a number of sales awards. He subsequently joined Metropolitan as Regional Manager South, responsible for establishing marketing infrastructure for Metropolitan Unit Trusts. He set up the IBC/Metropolitan LISP relationship, subsequently named Ovation Global Investments.
In 1999, he joined Gryphon and serves as Business Development & Sales Manager, responsible for growing and building our brand presence in the broker market and direct client marketing channel.

Bennie completed his B.Com Financial Management and B.Com Industrial Psychology degrees at RAU before he moved to London to join SKY’s finance department in 2004.
Returning home he started his investment career at PSG as a portfolio analyst. He completed his CFP while at PSG. From there he moved to NMG actuaries and consultants as head independent advisor for the Cape Town branch and joined Standard Bank SBFC business banking for a short while before moving to Gryphon as Business Development & Sales Manager in 2013.
Cynthia joined Gryphon in 1999 and continues to serve as our general Office Assistant.
Alvina serves as our Administration Assistant having secured a broad range of experience in office management in the maintenance service industry, prior to joining Gryphon in 2014. She assists in the administration of our portfolios and general office administration.

Theresa joined Gryphon in 2015 and is a vital part of our portfolio administration and compliance process. Her prior experience in customer service at PPS has added value to our support function. Theresa manages our Client Relations function and manages our sales and marketing material and website.
